Who really chooses world leaders?

Most people would reason that world leaders in the western world are democratically elected, appointed by the masses. In this video, we look at what the Bible has to say about this and consider the implications of a world where leaders are appointed by the God of Heaven.

Brexit: no surprise to the Bible reader

Today Britain looks set to leave the EU. The process could take 2 years, however during the campaign and with the Leave result of the referendum, with the Bible in hand there is little surprise at the result. Ezekiel 38 refers to a great battle in the last days, which will ultimately result in God's Kingdom being established on the earth with the Lord Jesus Christ reigning as king. It is a glorious age to come when there will be true peace and plenty on the earth.

Finding Contentment

Why does everyone in the 21st century struggle so hard for contentment? What is stopping us from being satisfied? From childhood it seems we have been programmed to want more and more. We are rarely satisfied, constantly searching for a state of contentment that we think will only be found when we get that promotion, run the marathon, get into a lasting relationship, receive a pay rise, pass the exam, win the lottery… Seeking contentment is usually unsatisfying. We become trapped in a never-ending cycle of striving, perhaps sometimes achieving, but never being truly content.

Love

February is the month of love. Valentines Day can be summed up in the famous saying: ‘the greatest thing you will ever learn is just to love and to be loved in return’. Valentines Day is only one day, it promises one day of love. Thankfully God’s love is not so fickle. It is eternal. The love of a parent for their child helps us to understand about what true love is, the love that sacrifices personal feelings, situation and lifestyle to suit those that are loved. The Bible tells us that we were made in the same image as God, that we are his children.

There is such a thing as 'the truth'

"Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened". That great wit, Sir Winston Churchill, is credited with this amusing observation. In today's world, it's fashionable for truth to be thought about in a vague, relative way, as something that changes with time, situation and individual. The idea of 'the truth', certainly in relation to a specfic set of religious beliefs, is often viewed as way out of date. "It's true for me, but it might not be for you". "That's how I see it". "It was true at the time".

The 'EYE' :The Evidence for Creation

Barny Norris, a professional optometrist, looks in some detail at the structures and workings of the human eye and concludes that it would be extremely difficult to imagine that it was constructed by any other method than by an intelligent designer. The hearing ear and the seeing eye, the Lord has made them both.

The General Election and VE Day: what's the link?

Two apparently unrelated events have featured largely in the news over the last week: the General Election and the VE Day celebrations. Seventy years apart, they may at first sight seem unconnected, yet there is a link between them. A co-incidence of timing meant that two of the three main political leaders gathered at the cenotaph were performing their last duty as leaders, faced with the immeasurably greater loss as the country remembered those who had fallen in the Second World War. Commentators have noted that the turnout for the vote is lower than many would like.

Peace On Earth: What Did The Angels Mean?

Many will no doubt have received cards on which the sentiment "Peace on Earth" such as these are expressed. It is almost universally the case that these words have been taken and used in this context - a desire for peace and harmony in the earth. This we are told is what the season of Christmas promotes. A Christmas Carol written at the time of the American civil war expresses the desire of its author for peace, and “man at war with man hears not the tidings which we – the angels – bring”.

Why do we die?

It's one of the unescapable hard facts of life - we all, unfortunately, will die one day. This talks looks at the reason why, showing how that mankind and science do not have an adequate answer. Turning to the Bible we find the answer, and not only that - God has provided a solution, a wonderful plan for the future of mankind and this earth which gives us hope and a positive outlook on life now.

For our country, November has two times of remembering. This article is adapted from a Youth Club earlier this month talk which looked at the sort of things those around us remember, why remembrance is important, and what God want's us to remember . Remember, remember the fifth of November Gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason, why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot.
