...the Bible is God's inspired word

Many of us grew up to regard the Bible as an out-of-date book, full of myths and legends, that has little relevance for life today. Only when we read it do we discover that it is nothing like that. It has extraordinary power and authority which really does change people’s lives.

Why is this? From cover to cover, the Bible claims to consist of words directly sent from God. It is not an outdated, man-made book at all:

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God… 

(2 Timothy 3 v 16)

In the New Testament, the apostle Peter assured readers that the written words were genuinely from God:

….prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

(2 Peter 1 v 21)

Also, in many cases, the writers were recording what they themselves had seen or heard:

For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.

(2 Peter 1 v 16)

Jesus himself explained that his message came directly from the Almighty God:

For I have not spoken on my own authority; but the Father who sent me gave me a command, what I should say and what I should speak.

(John 12 v 49)

Its unique origin is the reason that so many people put their trust in the Bible and read its message with care and excitement. They discover that it not only displays historical accuracy and integrity but also contains startlingly accurate predictions of future events with some still to unfold in the future. It not only provides powerful moral guidance but some of its social and health practices were far ahead of their time, only ‘discovered’ in the last 200 years. Most of all, it offers each of us a quite extraordinary and compelling future hope for ourselves and for our planet, which it is impossible to ignore.

The Bible claims to be a message to humankind from an immensely powerful being who is not confined to time and space as we know it. If we accept that this might actually be true then surely we have to check this out and discover for ourselves what the inspired word of God is telling us.
