- only the Bible records God's words

The Bible makes two important claims.

Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.

1 Corinthians 13 v 8

In this quote from the NKJV, “fails” means “stop”, so there will be no new revelations after the Bible.

The last book, Revelation, states:

“For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;  and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.”

Revelation 22 v 18-19

So, nobody should add anything extra to the Bible.

If what the Bible says is true, then God’s word won’t be found anywhere else. But why do we believe the Bible is true?

There are many convincing reasons we can trust the Bible. For example, it contains scientific knowledge that was above human understanding at the time it was written and we now know to be true. For instance, in the book of Genesis, Abraham is told:

“He who is eight days old among you shall be circumcised, every male child in your generations,”

Genesis 17 v12

Why does it say on the 8th day?  We now know a new born has initially low levels of Vitamin K but it rises to its highest level on the 8th day. Vitamin K is important in blood clotting.

Then, we could look at Bible prophecies, written hundreds of years in advance and subsequently fulfilled in every detail. Take Tyre, for example, a city on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean. When the Babylonians besieged it, they captured the mainland but failed to capture the offshore island. Alexander the Great conquered it by throwing the rubble of the mainland city into the sea to make a causeway. Look at what Ezekiel had prophesied long before:

They will plunder your riches and pillage your merchandise; they will break down your walls and destroy your pleasant houses; they will lay your stones, your timber, and your soil in the midst of the water.”

Ezekiel 26 v12

All the evidence suggests the Bible is, indeed, God’s word. So, we should believe it when it claims to be the only available record of the Word of God.
