Love

February is the month of love.

Valentines Day can be summed up in the famous saying: ‘the greatest thing you will ever learn is just to love and to be loved in return’. Valentines Day is only one day, it promises one day of love. Thankfully God’s love is not so fickle. It is eternal.

The love of a parent for their child helps us to understand about what true love is, the love that sacrifices personal feelings, situation and lifestyle to suit those that are loved. The Bible tells us that we were made in the same image as God, that we are his children. He created us, brought us into this world and everyday He nurtures us. He loves us even though we may not yet love him.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Because of His love for us, God had to watch His Son suffer a cruel and agonising death. A huge sacrifice so our sins could be forgiven. Because of his love for his Father, Jesus willingly offered his life to repair the relationship between the great Creator and mankind. Innocent of any crime, Jesus laid down his life for his friends and left us an example to follow.

A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.” (John 13:34)

True love sacrifices self, is patient, kind, trusting and giving. True love has provided us with hope of everlasting life when Jesus returns to this Earth to establish an age of love and peace.

We can join him and be part of that new world if we believe in him.
