What’s a church?
19th Feb 2021What’s a church? There’s huge variety in the Christian world: lots of churches and chapels but each diverse in its beliefs. What’s more puzzling is that most of them accept the Bible as key to their views and way of life. Does it matter? Do you head for the nearest church or join the one that suits you best? Christadelphians believe the Bible is God’s word to humankind, just as it says itself: "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (2Ti 3:16,17 NKJV) Amazingly preserved over thousands of years, the Bible tells a consistent story over 66 books. Christadelphians believe you can learn its truth by carefully reading it, not depending on external spirit guidance. The Bible interprets itself through a network of cross-references: the meaning of one passage leads to an understanding of others. The two sections (Old and New) work together to reveal God’s purpose and reveal His timeless wisdom. So, there’s no need to ‘grow’ the Bible message beyond its content or ‘change with the times’. An unchanging God does not, cannot, change. Here are two Bible references to think about: "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isaiah 8:20 NKJV) "If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God." (1 Peter 4:11 NKJV) In both passages, one from each Testament, it’s clear that anyone who claims to speak for God must do so in a way that agrees with what He has disclosed in His written Word. Pershore Christadelphians have their own Hall in Paddock Close. The meeting place, however, is not important. The Bible word often translated 'church', refers to people - the congregation - not the building. We believe God has written the Bible for all to read and understand. We invite anyone to read it with us in order to search out its meaning for themselves. pershore.bible pershore-christadelphians.org
